The State Government will recruit about 10,000 technical staff
for the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) shortly,
Transport Minister K.N. Nehru said.
Participating at the opening of a new office in the Rasipuram depot
of the Corporation on Sunday 7.6.2009, the Minister said that the
Government was operating over 20,000 buses in different parts of
the State. The Government had taken concerted efforts for the welfare
of the employees of the Corporation. A new wage agreement would
come into force next year, he added.
The Corporation had witnessed significant increase in the revenue
under the DMK regime. The Government had recruited about 35,000
personnel including drivers and conductors for the Corporation.
Bus services were introduced in over 2,000 new routes in the last
three years, he said.
Inaugurating the new office building, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi
S. Arumugam said that the Government had lifted the ban on recruitment
of personnel for various Government departments and over 2.5 lakh
persons were given employment opportunities.
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare S. Gandhiselvan
and Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan also spoke. Collector U. Sagayam
presided. Welfare assistances were distributed to 121 persons during
the function. Bus passes were issued to school students.
