Schwing Stetter India Private Limited (SSIPL) inaugurated their state of the art manufacturing facility at Irungattukottai near Chennai recently.  The Rs18 crore facility will design and manufacture the entire range of equipment meant for concrete preparation, transportation and placement.  SSIPL is a 100 % subsidiary of the German based DM1 billion Schwing Group of Companies, who are the world leaders in the manufacture of machinery for Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) and the construction industry.  The Indian facility at Chennai is the ninth owned manufacturing facility of the Schwing group.

The facility will manufacture concrete batching plants, truck mixers, concrete pumps and concrete recycling plants.  In addition to these, it will also have the following facilities -automatic shot blasting, hydraulic testing lab and a global design centre.  The facility has a 1,00,000 sq ft built up area and over 1,00,000 sq ft of open space fully concreted. An additional space of 2,00,000 sq. ft. is also available for future expansion.

A Sundaresan, Executive Director, SSIPL, said that, the main aim of setting up the facility was to give all their customers value for money.  "Our latest technology and proven standards are well accepted globally and we are proud to have brought the same for our Indian customers. Our facility at Irungattukottai meets all the quality requirements of our parent company," he said.

P Ramesh, General Manager - Marketing, SSIPL, answering a question said that, the percentage of indigenisation varied from product to product, ranging from 30% to 70%.  He also mentioned that the company had been able to reduce by as much as 40%, the price of some products because of increased indigenisation.

"In the process of higher indigenisation, the company has created about 90 vendors for supply of quality products. The company has a separate Quality Control Department working in close co-ordination with the parent company to ensure high degree of quality standards. As a policy, the company provides training to the Production Engineers and Quality Control Engineers at Germany," added V G Sakthi Kumar, Deputy General Manager - Marketing, SSIPL.

Schwing Stetter India, apart from servicing the existing equipment in neighbouring countries is exporting engineering drawings and designs from Chennai to other group companies. For this purpose, the company has set up a Design and Software Centre registered as a Software Technology Park. The software projects include development of micro-processor based control system for batching plant and other industry related projects.

According to M Subramanian, Chief Financial Officer, SSIPL, with the inauguration of the factory at Irungattukottai, Schwing Stetter India has targeted a gross turnover of Rs 57 crores, a growth of 48% compared to the previous financial year and a net turnover of Rs 51 crores.
