JOOSE
No, its got nothing to do with any fruit extract. JOOSE
is an acronym for Just Out Of Sensible Expectation. Formed
sometime in August 1999, this band has already made it big on the
Chennai music scene.
JOOSE comprises Ryan, Robyn, Alap, and Shayne. Ryan
is the good-looking vocalist who is currently with the Customer
Care Division of RPG Cellular. Robyn, the drummer, is going
back to college for higher studies. Shayne, on the lead guitar,
is just out of college, and is planning a career in Human Relations.
Alap, on the bass guitar, who is taking over from Mario
(the ex-bass guitarist for JOOSE) is still in college.
JOOSE took part in its first competition at JIPMER, Pondicherry,
and were placed runners up. They also took home the Best Bass Guitarist
award, Best Own Composition award, and the runners up award for
Best Vocalist. They were placed second at St John's, Bangalore,
and second again at the National Law School of India University
(NLSIU), Bangalore. By this time, five of their own compositions
- Funky Monkey, Joose to Get Loose, Dreamzone, Turn the World
Around and Why had become popular with listeners. In
a short span of time, they played at various competitions including
places like Stanley Medical College and IIT, in Chennai
and recieved good press publicity.
A band featuring some exceptional talent, JOOSE is waiting
to make it big on the international charts.

FUNKY BODHI
MUSIC
A
subsidiary label of Bodhi Records, Funky Bodhi is a platform
for interaction among serious musicians. This city-based group makes
music with a totally different sound - Indian traditional music
blended with present-day rhythm, and served as a hot and happening
style of music.
This band features musicians from widely different backgrounds.
Funky Bodhi is led by Paul Jacob, on the bass guitar and
the vocals. On the Tabla and the Mridangam is K.V. Balu , who
was part of Pulse, which received the Channel [V] Viewer's
Choice Awards in 1994. On the drums - Bonnie Chakraborty,
also a brilliant vocalist. Donnan Murray on the lead guitar,
has a series of ad jingles to his credit. On the saxophone - Maarten
Visser, from Holland, a trained Jazz musician. Neil Mukherjee
on the nylon guitar, is a musician of repute from Calcutta.
For more than two years now, Funky Bodhi has performed all over
the city, and also in Pondicherry. In December 1998, they made their
mark at Anna University, for the N.A.S.A (National Association
of Student Architects), performing to a crowd of around 6,500
from all over the country. Recently, they celebrated yesteryear
film superstar and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu - M.G.
Ramachandran's 83rd birth anniversary, with a show called "Erandayirathil
Oruvan."
